New Moon NOT Sighted TODAY – Yom Teruah Friday Night

Hey Everyone!!!

Yom Teruah will begin at sunset on September 26, 2014
It’s official! Yom Teruah is Friday night! Observers from across Israel reported in that the moon was not visible on Thursday September 25, 2014.

My thanks to all the observers who so diligently looked for the moon and for the folks in Poriyya Illit for so meticulously documenting their attempted sighting with photos! Special thanks to Yoel Halevi, Devorah Gordon, Devorah Levine, Willie Ondricek, Tzvi ben Daniel, David Cachicas, Rebekah Bibb, Kenny Russell, Hayley Russell, and many others who looked for the new moon tonight!

Many Blessings,

Occasionally the new moon can be seen in the US before it is in Israel as it just was Thursday night. Do you still wait to keep Trumpets as seen by new moon in Israel?

    1. Yes! You wait till Israel see it, then you keep the day as it comes to you! =]

What am I missing? Rosh Hashanah is always 2 day long. If the moon was then seen on Friday 26 at sundown, does that mean the festival goes into the Sabbath, Sunday 28 at sundown. Really want to understand!

    1. Yes…Yom Teruah was Shabbat this year!

I am having a hard time understanding when the new moon was sighted. Can you help me please??

    1. The New Moon was sighted Friday evening…Making Yom Teruah on Shabbat this year! If it is not seen the day it is expected to be seen, then it is automatically declared the next day no matter if it is seen or not. There cannot be more than 29 or 30 days in a month. Shalom

Shalom brothers and sisters! I have first sighted the New Moon this evening, from Mt. Eden in Auckland, New Zealand at 19.00 NZST – New Zealand Standard Time – which is 0.00 Pacific Standard Time (PST), or UTC + 12 hours, on this Friday 26th of September, 2014.
I coroborated this sighting with Karina, who I met while on Mt. Eden, though I am sure she thought I was a wacko (she asked if I was a ‘Pagan’) as she did not seem to know of Yom Teruah or the reason for my ‘trumpet’ I kept with me from Israel.

    Shalom Shabat

    Michael

Thank you! Could you add me to the update list? I was also wondering something…everyone around the world is supposed to be looking to the moon phases in Israel to calculate the feast days? If that’s so, what happens if I don’t know the moon phases in Israel at a point in the future? Thanks guys!

    1. If you loose contact with Israel, it would be fine to sight the moon where you are at, but in order to stay on track, Yah has set an international date line in Israel, and we follow the sightings from there and then keep the day as it comes to us!
