You are correct Rachel, Adar will end with only 28 days. The reason for this is the new moon was not sighted the 2 preceding months when it should have been visible. (Probably due to clouds). This allowed Tevet and Shevat to run 30 days each when at least 1 of them should have been 29. To allow the calendar to self correct to this situation, shorter months than 29 are allowed and necessary.

I wanted to see if the new moon had been sighted but I got the report on First month of the year. Why have you not updated the report for tonights new moon?

SO. A question. In Australia, we don’t find out it’s a new month until AFTER the new month starts. For example, at around 10am this morning, I got the email for the new moon sighting. We were already on April 1st. When the Day of Atonement is here, we have a fast on the first day of the month, as well as a day of no working. We won’t find out it’s the Day of Atonement until halfway through. That means we either have to guess when the new month is, and perhaps do the fast a day early, meaning we’d have to repeat it on the REAL first day, or we just wait and miss out. What to do?? Please help. Personally, I think that because we’re a day ahead, our new month day should be after Jerusalem’s new moon sighting, which would make us AWARE of the new month in time. We can’t exactly turn our days back by one.

I don’t need an answer to my question. I found it elsewhere. Thanks 🙂

But that means the last month was only 28 days? I thought they were 29 or 30
